Ladies around the region will soon be putting on their walking shoes, grass skirts and flower garlands to get in some early training for one of Stafford’s most popular fundraising events. Katharine House Hospice’s popular ladies sponsored Midnight Walk returns on Saturday 14th September. The event, which this year has a Hawaiian theme, is open to all ladies. The event is sponsored by the Brand Warehouse of Stafford and Beaconside Sports Centre.
James Lunney Hospice event fundraiser says:
“Registrations have just opened and ladies are already signing up for what really is a great social event. Many ladies have enjoyed the walk year after year and there is a real buzz of excitement on our Facebook page.”
“Women of all ages take part in the Midnight Walk for a number of reasons; to remember a loved one, for fitness or just for fun, but all are united in raising funds for a very worthwhile local charity. Whatever the reason it really is a great night out for the girls. This year we are doing things a little differently with a Hawaiian theme – we would encourage local ladies to grab a grass skirt and hula for Katharine House!”
“Ladies will be greeted with a Hawaiian garland whilst being entertained by fire dancers and fun games before embarking on the walk. A new 10K route will see ladies finishing at the University to be greeted by a bacon/veggie bap at the University refectory featuring a DJ and themed decoration and a champagne bar where they can buy a glass of fizz to celebrate”.
The walk costs £10 to enter if registered by 15th July – £12.50 after this date. Under 16’s accompanied by an adult can enter for £5.
Ladies taking part in the sponsored walk have helped to raise a whopping £250,000 since the event started. This has helped provide over 1,200 nights of in-patient care over the past 6 years.
But it’s not all ladies only! Whilst local women are pounding the streets to get training for the walk, registrations are also open for the popular Hospice 10k run – and 5k fun run taking place on Sunday 6th October at Shugborough.
Men are also needed to help out on the night as part of the large team of volunteers who make the event safe and special for the walkers.
