With Spring on the doorstep, the great outdoors beckons. Amongst the 50 activities on offer with Stone & District U3A, there are half a dozen or so which feature al fresco pursuits. How about digging out those walking boots and joining either the Strollers or the Walkers who meet on alternative Wednesdays setting out from Walton Community Centre car park at 9.30am?
The Strollers group is very popular and is intended for those who are not used to walking any great distance or at a fast pace. They enjoy routes of between 2-4 miles whilst the Walkers tackle somewhat more demanding distances of 5-9 miles, some being half day and some full day ventures.
Most walks are local but a few go rather further afield and each venture is graded according to its relative difficulty. Bird-watchers and photographers are welcome. Contact Colin Woods on 07917 021689 to find out more.
If you seek a more sporting challenge, it may be that Croquet or Crown Green Bowling would fit the bill[/caption]If, however you seek a more sporting challenge, it may be that Croquet or Crown Green Bowling would fit the bill. Both sports offer gentle exercise in the open air in congenial company. Croquet resumes on April 24th at Stone Cricket Ground; sessions run from 10am to 2pm. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, albeit competitive too. All equipment is provided and instruction given. Des and Val Robinson on 01785-616043 can supply all the relevant information.
Bowling gets back into action at Stonefield Park at the start of the month with vacancies in the groups which meet at midday on Mondays and Tuesdays; get in touch with either Mike Morrin on 01785 813208 or Brian Hamnett on 01785 812581 if you would like to know more.
