It was a full house at Granvilles on Tuesday June 11th to welcome back Honey Ryder from their recent sojourn to Nashville. It’s not the first time Honey Ryder have played the venue – a fact Lindsay O’Mahoney was only too keen to point out to the decidedly partisan crowd.
And why so partisan? One of Granvilles’ long term performers, Matt Bishop, is now a fully fledged member and is enjoying the rock life – from Taiwan to Stone to Nashville and back again – just in time to shear the Alpacas. They have a mini tour in July (to replace the cancelled dates in April, have an album coming out soon and their Marley’s Chains has been snapped up for a US crime series – Body of Proof. As the Tuesday underlined, since the Nashville trip, they really have hit their stride and could be destined to follow the Mumfords in the USA although their take on folk music owes more to USA roots than their UK heritage. That said, were Fleetwood Mac a UK or USA band – and that’s the nearest I can get to their sound. Classic melodies, intelligent lyrics and an audience friendly attitude … your editor is very impressed (and that has nothing to do with Matt’s monthly contribution to the Gazette.
Greatness beckons and if you do get the opportunity to see them live at Granvilles again, be there
