Dad’s Lounge – a good idea or what?

Dad's-Lounge-copyCalling all Dads! Do you ever wish that you could spend a couple of hours of quality time with your child or one that you look after or care for? Do you want to get out of the house on a Saturday morning and do something different with like minded dads and give mum a break or join in with others?

If so then you’ll find a small group of dads and    carers taking time out with their younger children, up to  5 yrs old, doing just that. Based at the Children’s Centre, Manor Hill School in Stone, Dad’s Lounge has been  established for about 4 years and with a little funding and our own contributions of £1 per visit we effectively look after ourselves. We are very informal and you can come and go as you please between 10-12 a.m. most Saturdays.

The time is spent encouraging early years foundation skills, messy play, team games, reading, healthy eating and social skills. Of course there’s always a bit of time for the dads to catch up on the latest news, current afairs and sports results! We have a low key program of other activites and have enjoyed trips to Drayton Manor, West Midlands Safari Park.

We are currently planning to go to the Sealife Centre in Birmingham.

Of course these are special treats, and the odd visit to a local animal farm is more common. There are other benefits like the odd night out for the Dad’s or the odd raft race thrown for good measure! Now and again we choose to do stuff as families without it becoming an obligation, so if you want to spend more time with those you care,  and support their development then why not drop in, and join us?
