Two members of Stafford Archers were on target when competing in the recent Staffordshire Junior Archery Championships at South Staffordshire College, Penkridge. More than sixty archers attended the event with more than half of those being juniors. Amongst those shooting alongside the juniors was Nicky Hunt, Commonwealth Gold Medallist and Rio Olympic hopeful. Nicky went on to win the Ladies Recurve event.
Walton Priory Middle School students, Griff Jones (13) and Mat Jones (11) both shoot for Stafford Archers and are also members of the Staffordshire Junior Archery Squad. The tournament lasted the entire day with archers shooting 144 arrows over four distances. Griff, who has been shooting for 5 years was in top form and became Gents U14 County Recurve Champion. Mat who has been shooting for less than 2 years was runner up in the Gents U12 Compound event. Luc Royle, another Stone based archer who shoots for Trent Valley Archers came a fantastic third in the Gents u12 Recurve event, his first ever competition.
The medals and trophies were awarded by Michael Peart. He himself has shot for Great Britain but has now taken a new role as coach for the GB Paralympics Archery Squad.
