2013 marks 140 years of Yarlet School. The school community celebrated this occasion with an anniversary Summer Fair on Saturday 29th June. The school brass band opened proceedings at 1pm and then the families set to getting involved in the various activities that had been organised including face painting, hoopla and an auction of paintings by former Yarlet pupils. A particular favourite with the children was the headmaster in the stocks, Mr Raybould was a great sport and allowed his pupils to soak him with wet sponges, needless to say there was a queue!
For the more strenuous there was a The Great Yarlet Tug of War, where both the parents and children were victorious over the teachers.
The Windsor Marquee served cream teas, champagne and Pimms for those happy to just soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sunshine.
The former headmaster Mr Plant and his wife were able to join in the celebrations and kindly judged the Great Yarlet Bake-Off which was entered into by both parents and children. After a glorious afternoon the school orchestra closed the event with some of the music they had learned during this academic year. The perfect end to a wonderful afternoon.”
