July is an exciting time for the members of staff who work at Disability Solutions for the Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service Project as it celebrates its first birthday.
The Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service was established in July 2012 as a partnership between Disability Solutions West Midlands and Macmillan Cancer Support, The team consists of a Senior Welfare Benefits Officer, four Welfare Benefit officers, a Welfare Benefit Support Officer and volunteers.
The service offers free, confidential advice to people living with cancer, their carers and family on issues such as welfare benefit entitlements and all aspects of independent living to ease some of the additional pressures a cancer diagnosis brings
So far the service has achieved £1.6 million pounds in additional income for over 700 people in Staffordshire affected by cancer.
Disability Solutions has been providing expert benefits advice for over 30 years to people in North Staffordshire. The new collaboration with Macmillan Cancer Support increases the support available across the whole of Staffordshire to those affected by cancer.
Rodger Read, Chief Executive of Disability Solutions said,
“This marks an important milestone in our partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support; it is our opportunity to take stock and assess how the service has matched up to our aspirations. The £1.6 million income generated for clients speaks for itself. A huge congratulations to the whole team”.
