From small beginnings – Stone Lions’ Mobility Scheme

In 1988 the Lions bought a battery operated mobility vehicle for use by a person in the local community.

This was to be the forerunner of what is now known as “The Lions Mobility Scheme”

Gradually over a number of years items have been added by the club or by donations from local residents. The people of Stone and the surrounding districts are able to borrow mobility scooters, wheelchairs, shop walkers, bath lifts etc. on a long or short term basis.

For a number of years the scheme was run by Lion Mike Ward MBE, but it was recognised by another member of the Club that it had become too much to expect Mike to run everything on his own, and a rota system was introduced.

The Lions would not be able to provide the excellent service to the community without being able to call upon the expertise of a local mobility company. A close association/ friendship has built up over the last few years and in 2011

Disable Aids of Cannock presented a mobility scooter to bring the grand total to 100  items that the Lions are able to offer on loan.

After a further two years of continuing help and assistance to the club it was decided that the Lions should present a Certificate of Appreciation to Disable Aids for all their support.
