Needing some help to cross the Alps to Monaco in a £250 Nissan Primera are two intrepid drivers raising money for The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice.
Jayson Hodgkinson and Andy Buxton, from Leek, are now looking for sponsors to help them cross the finishing line in the Monte Carlo or Bust European Banger Rally covering 1,200 miles in three days.
When the driving duo heard about Leah Powell from Leek, who has a rare childhood cancer, they decided to raise money for her, but the 13-year-old has asked that the money is donated to The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice. The charity is currently supporting Leah and her family.
The drivers are nearly at their fundraising target of £5,000 and are just looking for some more donations to help them on their way before they set off on 11th July.
“Leah is our inspiration to get to the finish line. The biggest challenge of the trip will be to get a £250 Nissan Primera over 1,200 miles in just three days. The support from local people and businesses in Leek has been amazing and our car is plastered in the names of more than 40 companies that have sponsored us. We are just off our target of £5,000 so any donation, no matter how small, with help to make a difference to Leah and the families who use the Hospice.”
Jayson and Andy are setting off The Cock Pub, in Leek, on 11th July to travel down to the Eurotunnel before starting the race in St Quinten in France and then across to Switzerland, Italy and finally finishing into Monaco. They are due to finish on 15th July.
