Stone & District U3A

Bowling Matters – Crown Green Bowling has been very popular again this summer with excellent attendances at all four groups and much lively play of a good standard. The Annual match between Barlaston Bowls and Tennis Club and Stone U3A took place at Meaford in mid-June. Again it was a very enjoyable, if showery, afternoon with Barlaston coming out on top this time, by four matches to two. A return fixture was arranged for mid-August. The bowlers also supported the Stone in Bloom process by providing background activity during the judging in July.

Canasta – This group, which meets on Tuesday afternoons in term time at Aston Village Hall, is still on the look out for new members. Experience is not necessary and you will not be left on your own until you are confident you can cope. Meetings commence at 1.45pm to allow setting-up time, and end at 4.00pm. If you are interested, whatever your level of expertise, give Group Leader Susanne Imrie a ring on 01785819703 or e-mail

Tenors and basses required – After just a few meetings the Harmony Choir have had some fun learning songs and enjoying warm-ups. Whether you are a novice or have experience, it is entertaining to get together and share the really good feeling that comes from making music. The summer break lasts till Wednesday 18th September when the next meeting will be held at Christchurch Annexe from 10-30am to 12noon. It is a very relaxed atmosphere with no pressure. Tenors and basses are specially needed though vacancies also exist for altos and sopranos. Contact Chris Maxted on 01785 604307 if you are interested.

Patchwork and Quilting – The new group will be commencing on Wednesday 4th September at Barlaston Methodist Church and will take place on the first and third weeks of each month. It will cater for beginners up to intermediate and, if you are interested in joining, more information can be obtained from Group Leader Gwen Steele on 01782 372976 or by e-mail
