August is a special month for Swynnerton and Yarnfield WI as this is the month they hold their Annual Pudding Evening. It was a very successful experiment one summer and has returned each year by popular demand. There were therefore high hopes for another successful evening in 2013. Unfortunately, after a lovely hot, sunny day the clouds rolled in and the heavens opened; and to add insult to injury a violent thunder storm arrived just as the doors to the Village Hall were due to open.
Nevertheless, almost 100 villagers, friends and family braved the elements to support the WI’s efforts and made a success of the event.
The evening is a chance for members of the WI to demonstrate their culinary skills in producing rich desserts we all love but rarely eat because we’re all taking care of our waistlines. The spread of rich desserts and gateaux as well as more traditional puddings and pies all served with a choice of custard or cream were rapidly tucked into and the majority of those attending came back for seconds!
The WI President Audrey Prew explained that following a very interesting talk given a while ago by Eccleshall First Responders and attendance at a Heart Start Training Evening the WI would like to go a step further and raise enough funds to purchase a defibrillator for use in Swynnerton village. Part of the proceeds from the Pudding Evening will be used for this purpose with future events in the planning to raise additional funds for the project.
