A pub off the beaten track …

CAMRA are pleased to announce that The Anchor at High Offley excellent canal-side pub has been included in CAMRA’s publication ‘Britain’s Best Real Heritage Pubs’.

A presentation took place on Saturday to Olive Cliff, who has been licensee for over 40 years.

The attached photograph shows Olive Cliff and Mike Harker (Heart of Staffordshire CAMRA Chairman).

The Anchor is easily found by canal, next to Bridge 42 on the Shropshire Union. It has been a welcome ‘watering hole’ for boaters for Centuries, and currently sells a great pint of Wadworth 6X, together with traditional cider.

A journey by road is less easy, but well worth trying. The postal address is Peggs Lane, High Offley. Please note, however, that the post code can lead sat-nav users into the middle of a field – it is better to use ‘Peggs Lane’! Opening times do need to be checked – contact Olive Cliff (01785) 284569 prior to making a journey.
