A monarch comes to Swynnerton

A-Monarch-copyThe good folk of Swynnerton were granted an audience with no less a person than King Henry VIII, the guest of honour at their royal feast on October 12th.  After a banquet of beef royale and apple pie, he regaled them with tales of his six wives, his quarrel with the pope, his ‘bastardized’ daughters Mary and Elizabeth and his hopes for his son and heir Edward.

His royal personage was enacted to the life by John White, who plays Henry VIII at Tutbury Castle to curator Lesley Smith’s Elizabeth I or Mary Queen of Scots. Organised by Margaret Thompstone of Swynnerton, the evening raised £400 for Macmillan Cancer Nurses at Home.
