Stone Festival has a new Chairman – Andy Glover, who has been a member of the Festival committee for the past three years, was elected Chairman at the Annual General Meeting held in September. John Sayer, the Chairman for the past seven years, stepped aside following his recent election as Rotary’s District Governor for 2016/17, but will remain on the Committee as Vice Chairman and Press and Publicity Officer.

In another change, the Festival Treasurer, Emma Tonge, also stepped aside and was replaced by Kate Joyce. Festival Secretary John Sanders remains in post.

Earlier in the meeting John Sayer had observed that the 2013 Festival had been another great Community Event, and he was pleased that the Festival team had been able to make an increased distribution to local good causes.

The outgoing Chairman thanked Festival’s main sponsors – The Stone & Eccleshall Gazette – for their generous support and also made mention of the tremendous support given by Bassett’s Transport every year. He remarked that without the help and support of so many sponsors it would be very difficult to have a Festival every year. He also praised the hard work put into the week by the whole committee – a group of volunteers who work selflessly behind the scenes throughout the year.

The outgoing Treasurer, Emma Tonge, presented the financial report and noted that it had been possible to distribute over £5,000 to a total of 26 local good causes this year.

Stone Festival is organised by a team of volunteers drawn from representatives of the Town’s Inner Wheel Club, Stone Lions, Stone Round Table and Stone Rotary Club together with several independent members, and is looking for some ‘new blood’ to come along and help make next year’s Festival happen. Next year’s Festival is planned to be held between the 8th and 15th of June, with Carnival Day on Saturday 14th June.
