Towpath transformation

You can now walk, run or bike the two-mile towpath between Meaford and Barlaston and stay clean.  With its new wheelchair-friendly surface, the once notoriously muddy stretch between bridges 98 and 103 now forms part of the National Cycle Network linking Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

Financed by a partnership between Stafford Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council and the Canal and River Trust, works on the project were finished in late September, two months ahead of schedule.

Your Gazette reporter checked it out one Friday afternoon and met Lewis (18) from Barlaston, on his way to visit a friend in Stone.
