Lucy Spencer from Eccleshall has shown an interest in cooking since a young age. Her primary school, Bishop Lonsdale, introduced her to a ‘Junior Chef’ course at Stafford College when she was just 8 years old.
Now 11, Lucy represents Stafford College in the Young Chef competition organised by the Rotary Club. She competed against other young chefs in her age group from Walton High School, King Edward VI High School, Weston Road Academy, Sir Graham Balfour High School and Stafford College. Lucy , from Sir Graham Balfour High School, represented Stafford College and won cooking Moroccan turkey meatballs with citrus couscous and a spicy tomato sauce followed by Blushing pears.
The healthy two courses for two people had to cost under £10 an be cooked within one hour.
The District Semi Finals took place on Thursday 6th February in Newcastle. Supported by her family and friends from Sir Graham Balfour High School, Stafford College and of course Perry’s the Butchers where Lucy cooked Rogan Josh pies last year and was featured in the Gazette, Lucy won through to the next round of the cookery competition – the District Finals which take place at in Newcastle at the end of February. 6 of the 12 competitors ranging from year 7 to year 11 were put through after competing on the 6th. Of the total 150 points that could be awarded the whole group were within 15 points of each other – so it was very close.
