Volunteers needed for Downs Banks this Sunday

291708Volunteers are being sought by the National Trust to help install fencing at Downs Banks, Barlaston.

Meeting one Sunday every month for a range of tasks, the next work party is on Sunday 2 March at 10am.

The fencing will extend the grazing area to further benefit the landscape, local flora and fauna and revert more of the site to acidic grassland, a nationally important habitat.

“We have a great team of volunteers, all of them love this place and it would be great to get as many people involved in this as possible. It’s a big job and we want people to be involved in helping shape the landscape,” said Paul Roberts, Assistant Ranger.

“Volunteers play an important role in helping us to carry out our work, particularly on sites like Downs Banks. Our team always welcome new faces.”

If you would like to join the next session, head to Downs Banks at 10am on Sunday 2 March where they meet in the main car park, off Washdale Lane. Follow signs off the A34. Wear suitable clothes for working outdoors, including sturdy footwear, and bring lunch.
