Katharine House Hospice and the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice have been honoured with a donation of over £2,400 each as part of £600,000 distributed nationally to adult and children’s hospices by The Freemason’s Grand Charity. In total Staffordshire Hospices have received £23,000. The funds raised are due to the kindness, generosity and commitment of Staffordshire Freemasons.
Dr. Alexander Stewart, Provincial Grand Master of Staffordshire Freemasons who had previously visited the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, recently visited Katharine House Hospice to witness first-hand the vital free hospice care Staffordshire Freemasons have helped to provide. Dr Stewart met representatives of Staffordshire Hospice’s on his visit.
Katharine House Hospice Chief Executive Dr Richard Soulsby said; “Freemasons have given millions of pounds over many years to support the work of charitable hospices across the country. This donation of £2,443 to Katharine House and Donna Louise Hospice will make a real difference to the support we can provide to our patients. It will help us continue to provide much needed care to patients and support to families. We are very grateful for this support.”
Lisa Courtney, Fundraiser at The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice pictured said “We are overwhelmed with the continued generosity of Staffordshire Freemasons. It is thanks to our wonderfully committed supporters that we are able to provide our services to children and their families across Staffordshire and South Cheshire and continue to make every moment count. We truly couldn’t do it without them.”
Dr Alexander Stewart congratulated regional hospices on the exceptional care they continue to provide. He said; “Charity is a cornerstone of Freemasonry and I am delighted that we can support our local hospices in the wonderful work they do”
“The hospices are, and always have been, close to our hearts in Freemasonry. As you may be aware, our Grand Charity gives an annual grant to the hospices in England and Wales, 239 in all, which this year amounted to £600,000. Hospices in Staffordshire received £23,000”.
The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice Trust provides a range of specialist care and support services for children with a shortened life expectancy and their families. They support children aged 0-19 with the challenges that having a life-threatening condition can often bring. Services may be provided in the family home or the hospice or a combination of both depending on the family’s and child’s preference.
