Walton students and staff rowed across the English Channel and back again in aid of Sports Relief on Friday 21st March! Students and staff paid £2 to row in 20 minute stints and charity buckets rattled away as students passed by on way to lessons! Walton’s four House Groups namely Kingsley, Deercote, Hazelslade and Oldacre competed against each other to add an element of fun. The Heads of House rowed too, as well as spurring on their respective students to race across the Channel.
Whilst the rowers rowed, the remainder of the school were invited in Tutor Groups to attend the Sixth Form Centre to purchase hundreds of beautiful cakes, baked by staff and students the night before. It was a sell out!
After school, a one mile sponsored fun run took place on the school field. Over one hundred members of staff and students donned fancy dress and entered into the fund raising spirit which is ‘Sport Relief’.
“The students did a fantastic job raising money for this worthwhile cause whilst having lots of fun at the same time. Our aim was to raise £1000 from the various activities taking place during and after school on Friday. Early indications show that we are due to smash that figure. I send out a heartfelt thanks the School Council for organising the event and to all students and staff that made this year’s Sport Relief Friday such a successful and fun filled occasion.”
