Barlaston’s Good Neighbour Scheme goes live on May 10th with a 11am – 1 pm launch at Barlaston Village Hall by Head of Barlaston Primary School Mandy Clarey.
An initiative of the Community Council of Staffordshire, the Good Neighbour Scheme enables people to volunteer practical support to neighbours who through age or disability may feel isolated. A volunteer could offer as much or as little time they can give to offer practical help with shopping, befriending, transport to medical appointments, etc. Just a small offer of help can make a big difference to someone who is lonely.
“A few people have completed volunteer application forms and are at various stages of the recruitment process,” said Good Neighbour Schemes officer Michelle Reynolds.
“We do need more volunteers though, so please contact me if you would like to apply. Part of the volunteer recruitment process is an induction training session. This is really important for all volunteers to understand their role especially because the volunteer might be helping vulnerable adults,” Michelle continued.
The first induction date is 29th April 2014 at the Butler Library, Esperanto House, Barlaston at 17:30 until 19:30. For catering purposes, please contact Michelle Reynolds on Michelle.Reynolds@staffs.org.uk, tel 07985 801626 if you would like to come along.
