About the Stone In Bloom Group
Stone in Bloom began in 1991 and some of the original members still remain involved. The Stone entry to ‘The Heart of England in Bloom’ used to be organised by Stafford Borough Council until 2008. Since then Stone in Bloom has had the role of organising and has been ably assisted by ‘Streetscene’ who grow and supply plants for the hanging baskets, planters and the displays around the Town and in Stonefield Park. In 2011 we were awarded our sixth’ Gold ‘ in a row by the ’Heart of England In Bloom’ and because of this continuing success we were invited to represent the area in the RHS Britain in Bloom National competition in 2012. This resulted in the Town receiving a Silver Gilt Award in the Large Town category and a special award for our work with Young people. We also won our 7th ‘Heart of England in Bloom’ gold.
We are constantly increasing the number of our projects and welcome the support of local businesses and individuals who assist us with sponsorship. Stone Town Council has given us grants which have enabled the purchase of tools and paint for street furniture and many other essentials. There has been planting of trees, bulbs and our new wild flower beds, which give a beautiful array of colour from early summer until the autumn.
As a ‘Friend’ of Stone in Bloom we will keep you up to date with our campaign and the opportunities to volunteer to work on areas in the town which need clearing, tidying and preparing for the judging day. There are social events and talks arranged to which you are invited. We often have a stall to promote our ‘In Bloom’ entry at the monthly Farmers market where you can meet group members.
A major benefit of being a ‘Friend ‘is your discount card that you receive when you become a member. You are entitled to use this when shopping at 18 different businesses in Stone and District. We are grateful to these businesses for supporting our group in this way. A full current list of participating businesses and what is offered above.
Our mission statement is Community involvement, Environmental friendliness, Horticultural enthusiasm, Sustainability.
