International debut for Stone footballer

SGS-Joshua-Williams-footballStone footballer Joshua Williams made his international under-15 debut for Wales in a two match series against Poland.

The Welsh-born 14-year-old Stafford Grammar School student was called-up for the second tie at Deeside Stadium, home to GAP Connah’s Quay FC. Wales trailed 1-0 at half time and full-back Williams was introduced off the bench and made an impact on the left flank, but the Welsh outfit were unable to overturn the deficit.

“I was just itching to get on and do my best for the team. This experience has just made me want to work even harder as a footballer, knowing the intense competition for places,”

said Williams.

A former pupil at St Michael’s First School, the talented defender played junior football for PSV Stone before joining the Aston Villa Academy. He earned selection to the Welsh under-15 development squad of 30 last September and was among 22 players named for the recent international double header with Poland.
