Footballer Joe Berks who is currently in the Second Form at Denstone College has just heard that he has been selected for the England Under 13 Independent School Football Association ( ISFA) squad for a festival which will take place in August against a number of professional academy sides.
Last November Joe went for a trial with the Under 13 Midlands regional team. Following his success at the trial he was then chosen to represent the Midlands in the National finals which took place over the weekend of 5 and 6 April and concluded on Monday 7 April at Shrewsbury School
Over the three days Joe played for the Midlands at centre midfield against the other English regions, including the South West, the North West and the Eastern counties. He captained the Midlands team on two occasions and scored 5 goals in the tournament. During the matches, the coaches made assessments of the players and as a result of his excellent showing,he has been names in the national squad.
Rob Newey, the Midlands ISFA coach said: ‘Joe excelled himself over the three days at Shrewsbury School, both on and off the pitch. His performances on the pitch were magnificent and it came as no surprise when Joe earned selection for the National side. Off the pitch Joe was a credit to himself and everyone he was representing.’
James Hartley, Deputy Head at Denstone, said ‘Joe is clearly not only talented but also a hard working player. It is a great achievement to be picked for a national side and I congratulate Joe on his successful selection.’
