I have recently returned from a holiday in the south of France near a place called Prades, 40 minutes from Perpignan. Our group of friends go regularly to enjoy the sun and relaxation. A highlight is our visit to the Vide Grenier. This is simply when little French villages open up their garages, outhouses, attics and even kitchen cupboards to have a sale of unloved/unused/unwanted belongings. Visitors amble around looking for a bargain and generally enjoy the scenery and ambience on the day. It’s like an ‘open plan’ car boot sale.
This year I was lucky enough to come across a silver cigarette case engraved with a map of Australia, a perfect present for my daughter’s Aussie boyfriend. An antiques dealer from home had us all looking for birdcages and we were successful too!So this got me thinking. Our village could do this … so we are!
On Saturday 10th May (2-5pm) Hilderstone is inviting you to come and ‘bag a bargain’ as you stroll around the numerous stalls dotted around the village.
Enjoy our Open Church with cake stall or enjoy a cream tea in the village hall where a group of local artists will also be selling handmade gifts and artwork.(12.00 -5pm). Or just come and have a drink in our newly re-opened pub, The Roebuck where a warm welcome awaits you.
This is our first Vide Grenier … come and make it yours!
