Students at Stone’s Pop School & Stage Academy (PSSA) performing arts training school will get a grounding in the world of TV and film this term, as the school’s focus switches from stage to camera.
In each of the Saturday sessions – which are split into Drama, Singing and Dance classes – students will get an insight into every element of what it takes to make material for the big – or small – screen. Drama classes will guide students though the process of creating a short film; from brainstorming concepts to writing scripts, casting, laying down sound recordings, filming scenes and finally editing to produce professionally finished films.
During singing classes, Glee style ‘mash ups’ of musical theatre and chart hits will continue the TV theme; with an emphasis on microphone technique and recording. In dance classes the focus will be on the development of technique and audition skills using a variety of dance styles.
The term will culminate with a ‘Film Festival’ where students can showcase the fruits of their labour by screening the films they have produced, directed and acted in to friends and family.
Studio Director at Rooftop Studios, where PSSA is based, says:
“PSSA is a training school that focuses on furthering technique, confidence, audition repertoire and performance discipline. Our partnership with the London-based BAM actor’s agency is proving fruitful with more and more opportunities arising for students from the Stone academy to take part in castings for TV and film work, so spending a term focusing on the world of TV and Film seemed like a natural step to help prepare them.
“We’re fortunate to have a great team of teachers who, as professional performers in their own right, have first-hand experience in the industry and can help guide and inspire students. One of our patrons, Ian Kelsey, is a seasoned TV actor having appeared in Emmerdale as Danny Glover and currently as Howard Bellamy in the BBC drama Doctors – we’re hoping to get Ian to pop in for a session to share his advice for budding young actors.”
