Anglers were greeted with bright sun and cold easterly winds, so not exactly ideal fishing conditions….as i found out the day before the match day by only landing 5 fish.
On the day all of the boats headed for the ‘Fish Bowl’ and ‘Atlantis’ apart from one who started in the Lodge Bay. I was very surprised when i saw a boat heading back towards the jetty just before 1pm- Surely they couldn’t of bagged up i thought.
LLoyd Pallet and Gary Morris blew the field away by landing their 16 fish bag limit within three hours accumulating a staggering 10lb of time bonus. They found the fish high up in the water even with the sun, fishing a Di5 Sweep with a Blob Booby on the point and Sunburst Blob on the dropper (12ft apart). Their killing retrieve was a fast Roly Poly as soon as their flies touched the water.
The top two pairs have now advanced through to the final at Rutland Water (7th Sept). Also a big well done to Richard Lovett who landed the biggest fish of 5lb 6oz winning him a voucher forSalmon and Sea trout fishing on the famous River Towy.
Looking a head in to May, we have some fantastic venues to visit and with this warmer weather the buzzer fishing should be brilliant.
We kick off at Blithfield Reservoir on the 4th May in Staffordshire shortly followed by Llyn Clywedog on the 10th May which has just produced a new fishery record of a staggering 25lb. Kielder Water is to follow the day after on the 11th May.
