Weekend results from Phil @ Seighford Lakes

user61276_pic15561_1399813836Saturday 10th May saw the Scierra Pairs head to the beautiful Llyn Clywedog for the 6th round of the competition, 11 pairs had entered the heat with one pulling out the day before (maybe they saw the forecast)

The weather was going to play a major role in this match with all the boats relying on Electric Engines, With the strong winds all the boats chose to start around the cages. With the cages area being Shetland some what from the wind the majority of the boats stayed around this area apart from 4 boats which after the first 2 hours decided to take the gamble and use up their batteries to cover the water.

Gareth Evans and Mike Williams drifted away from the pack to take their limit and land back at the jetty for 1pm which was unbelievable as the weather was so windy and non stop rain. Gareth and Mike took all of their fish on a Di5 sweep with a Sunburst blob on the top dropper with a Cat Booby on the point. Both anglers fished superbly well and deserved to be in the lodge out of the wind and rain.

kielder-head-winnersNext boat back was at 2.30pm and was the pre match favourites Gareth Dixon and Russell Owen, the lads had drifted down towards the Dam wall and Sailing club to tempt their 16 fish. Pulling was the way forward as well for these top anglers taking the fish on lures fished on a Di 5 with a Roly Poly Retrieve.

3rd spot went to Wynn Gwalchmai and Ken Llewellein, this pair deserved their limit as they spent 50 minutes traveling up to the top of the lake to find fish hidden away down a quiet Arm at the opposite end of the lake.

Well done to everyone who fished in the poor weather conditions you all did great and still everyone caught and weighed in fish top angling.

Sunday 11th May Kielder Heat

After a very long drive up the country saw me arrive to a fine morning at Kielder Water, Crazy how the weather changes from blustery winds and non stop rain; to a lovely gentle breeze and sunny intervals. 12 pairs would be fishing for the three places available in the final in September at Rutland Water.

10 boats headed down towards the Dam Area with two boats heading towards the Quarry. Most anglers seemed to be fishing sinking lines with a couple of bright lures on, as the water seemed very peaty.

The first boat back to the jetty took a lot longer than i thought, considering the conditions looked perfect…they arrived back at 16.00pm. Local anglers Peter Pattinson and Ray Fothergill took their fish from Stockie Bay and Hawkhope using a Di 3 line pulling high in the water with a Orange Blob on the top dropper with a Cats Whisker on the point. Their 16 fish bag weighed 26lb 6oz combined with their time bonus saw them take first place with an impressive 30lb 6oz.

No more pairs were lucky enough to finish before 6 o’clock. Most pairs were weighing in 7-9 fish and rumours were circling that one pair had landed 15 fish. Sure enough the last pair to weigh in were Tom Nelson and Tom Robson who had 15 fish for 22lb 8oz. The pair caught using a Di3 and a Di5 sinking lines, the killer flies were Cats Whiskers and a Concept Budgie. The two Tom’s stuck to the Quarry area as they were picking up fish steadily through out the day.

The third pair lucky enough to get through were father and daughter duo Paul Tweddle and Junior lady angler Jessica Tweddle who landed 9 fish for 13lb 11oz. This is what this competition is all about, getting younger people in to the competition side of our sport as you get to fish with your partner in the same boat. This is why the Scierra Pairs offers a Junior discount on every entry, giving the younger anglers a chance to fish along side some of the best anglers in the UK.

Have you entered this great competition yet? Places are still available at heats all over the country. Check out the website to see if there is a heat near you. http://www.scierrapairs.co.uk.
