On Friday 15th August nine colleagues from Delta Surgical Ltd, from Newcastle, will take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Myaware (the new name of the. Myasthenia Gravis Association). Myasthenia Gravis and Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome are rare, autoimmune diseases and Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome, also extremely rare, is caused by an inherited genetic fault.
All types of myasthenia are characterised by fluctuating, sometimes fatal muscle weakness. A diagnosis of myasthenia usually means that activities that most of us take for granted, like smiling, eating, swallowing, talking and breathing can become difficult or even impossible. Recent research has resulted in better management of the disease but there is no cure. Myaware relies on voluntary income to provide its vital services for people diagnosed with myasthenia and is therefore extremely grateful to Delta Surgical Ltd for their support in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, giving staff a day’s leave to take part in the challenge.
Staff from the company are in training for what is one of the greatest mountain challenge experiences in the UK and takes participants on a 24.5 mile walk through the breath-taking scenery of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, climbing the three peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, starting and finishing in Horton-in-Ribblesdale and with a target time of just 12 hours to complete!
Leading the team from Delta Surgical Ltd will be Jon Humble, Sales Manager, who says,
‘We decided to take part in this challenge because Myasthenia Gravis is a disease that is still reasonably unknown by the general public. It’s something that is very close to my heart and each year we try as a company to raise a small amount of money for the fantastic MGA charity.’
