500 runners set off from St Michael’s First School in sweltering conditions last Sunday morning to run the ever popular Stone St Michael’s 10k. The hot conditions didn’t prevent local runner Ben Gamble of Tipton Harriers winning in a scortching time of 32:22, with first lady Kim Fawke-Williams of Centurion Running Club finishing in 35:26.
Stone Master Marathoners first finisher was Mick Downs in 39:21 with first lady for the club Rachel Yates finishing in 46:59. Other finishers included Mike Keeling 40:46, Rich Fain 41:40, Paul Lee 44:25, Paul Phillips 44:49, Alex Yendole 48:41, John Jones 48:54, Pam Davies 49:35 and taking the first lady over 60 prize, Richard Shaw 49:37, Anne-Marie Mountford 49:56, Mac McCoig 53:54, Julie Ebrey 55:46, Malcolm MacKinnon 58:16, Sonia Lockett 58:54, Joyce Edwards 1:00:49, Sam Cowap 1:01:12, Sally Butler 1:02:10, Julia Dando 1:02:19, Anne Griffiths 1:02:19.
Connecting with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, seven Master Marathoners travelled to France to run the Marathon de la Liberté in Caen on 15th June. Representing the club were Fabien Carbonell 3:34:42, Steve Parker 3:35:17, Jim Holland 3:42:53, Jackie Allen 3:49:30, Bernie Priekulis 4:10:22, Tom Johnson 4:19:55, Mac McCoig 4:42:06.
