Former pupil at Alleynes High School, Nick Donovan has just been awarded a Doctorate from Manchester Metropolitan University. He stayed on at Alleynes in the sixth form and then went to University gaining a First Class BA Hons in Music and Popular Musics and a Masters Degree in Contemporary Arts.
His PhD was awarded for Composition in Sound and Image within Digital Technologies.
Nick, who now Iives and works in Manchester, is Curriculum Manager for BIMM Manchester, a brand-new Music College which opened in 2013. He also makes music under artist name DEADBEAR (deadbear.co.uk) with new releases coming out soon following his debut EP WABI SABI released by Art is Hard records.
Nick was fortunate enough to be chosen by the University to be sent to then the the Roche Continents programme (part of Salzburg Festival) where he, and 100 chosen other students from all over Europe participated in workshops and attended operas in the evenings.
He is now part of the Roche Continents alumni. His work also involved the development of interactive sound and video for which he was also lucky enough to go to Switzerland to CERN to utilise data from the Large Hadron Collider to produce an art installation. All these opportunities allowed him to follow his career in music and arts, and all of this started in Stone!
