The Stone Lions club held their annual duck race on Saturday August 2nd – later than planned due to the very high water levels on the original date!
The race went off without mishap and many thanks must go to the willing volunteers who helped the Lions set up the collection area and the canoeists who made sure that all the stragglers were rounded up and safely gathered in.
The Lions organisation runs a scheme for Youth exchange when youngster from abroad come and stay with members of Lion families in the UK, this year Stone members have hosted two young ladies one from the Ukraine and the other from Finland.
Before the race commenced the two visitors where presented with Stone Lions bannerettes by President Rod Niven and were introduced to the Stone Town Mayor Councillor Cathy Collier prior to her attendance at the start of the race.
The winning duck numbers are as follows.
1st prize – £100 Argos vouchers – 1073
2nd Prize – a water colour painting donated by Gillian Robins – 0088
3rd Prize – a £30 voucher donated by” Granville’s” of Stone – 0651
4th Prize- a £25 voucher donated by “Stone Country Butchers” – 0776
Last duck home Bottle of Red wine donated by “The Mill” Stone – 0576
All winners have been contacted and received their prizes. A Big thank you to all of you who supported the race and those who kindly donated prizes, this year over £900 was raised for charity.
