Stone Choral Society wants to make all its concerts special, and this one is special because it features the work of a local composer and choir member: Stuart Johnson. We shall be singing his Requiem and also Vivaldi’s Gloria.
Stuart Johnson is well known throughout Staffordshire for his work with music education and was the Head of Music for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent for a number of years. The Requiem was composed in memory of Stuart’s father Joseph, who was a Salvation Army Bandmaster in Chesterton. Besides the traditional Latin text, this requiem also includes extracts from well-known Salvation Army hymns. Stuart’s daughter Harriet, is our Musical Director. The requiem was last performed in Staffordshire in 1997 are we are extremely excited to be bringing it back to it’s home county under the direction of Harriet Johnson.
We shall be joined by another local choir at the concert, the Cantiamo Chamber Choir, for which Stuart is the musical director and the St. Cecilia Orchestra which is made of local musicians.
Since we need extra space for a second choir, the orchestra and the audience, this concert will be held at 7.30 pm on Saturday November 8th at the Blessed William Howard Catholic High School, Rowley Avenue, Stafford, ST17 9AB. We hope you can all find us there! Tickets: £10 (concessions £8) including a glass of wine or soft drink. Tickets available from Plants Jewellers or Home & Colour, both on Stone High Street.
