Stafford Borough Council instigated a competition entitled the “Pride in Your Patch Awards” and asked all 59 Councillors to nominate schemes and individuals that help enhance the wards which they represent.
Cllr Philip Leason, Borough Councillor for Stonefield and Christchurch Ward had no hesitation in nominating Glenda Rowley for all the work that she does keeping St Michael and St. Wulfad’s churchyard looking neat and tidy.
“Glenda can often be seen tidying the border by the church steps, the memorial garden, collecting leaves in the autumn and picking up litter etc. and although the Borough Council cut the grass it is the little things that Glenda’s does which really enhance the area.”
All the entries went before a judging panel headed by John Downing, from the sponsors Downing Limited, and Howard Thomas, Head of Environment at Stafford Borough Council. They then visited the short listed areas unannounced and were impressed with how tidy the borders etc. in the churchyard were.
Glenda received an engraved glass trophy, a voucher and certificates which were all presented in church prior to the start of the Sunday Service.
