It’s what we’ve all been waiting for … or at least some of us. In the USA, Christmas gets the nod after Thanksgiving … and in Stone, it’s Thursday November 20th starting from 5.30pm
The Stone Combined Schools Choir get proceedings off to a cheery start at 6pm, whilst we wait for Stone’s Mayor, Cllr Cathy Collier and the Big Man himself, Father Christmas who’ll use his magic to light up the sky at 7pm.
The entertainment will come from Stafford Radio who’ll be MC’ing the event and local vocalist and heart-throb Matt Blake who has headlined major events over the years, including Manchester’s Pride festival 2014, performing his own renditions of The Script, Michael Buble and Ed Sheeran. Matt told the Gazette ‘I cannot explain how excited I am to take part in the lights switch on, it will be a great honour.’ You can find more about Matt on Twitter @themattjblake
New Christmas Lights for Stone
And at Stone’s November 20th switch-on, Stone Mayor Cathy Collie and Santa will be turning on some new Christmas lights. Following a tendering process and a presentation to their October 2nd meeting, Stone Town Council have awarded a three-year contract to two new suppliers, Blachere Illumination who will supply the lights in partnership with Field and Lawn, who will erect them.
A proportion of the lights will be changed each year, although some of Stone’s existing lights will be re-used, Town Clerk Les Trigg told the Gazette.
“Both the old and new lights use energy-efficient LEDs, and as this new contract now includes all the costs in one package, the Council will make a worthwhile saving as well.”
Blachere Illumination are responsible for the UK’s most iconic lights – those on London’s “golden mile” – Oxford Street … and there can be no better accolade than that!
