Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service will be hosting the national launch event of a new firefighting tool.
The tool is a misting branch, which forms the nozzle of a firefighting hose. The nozzle has been named ‘ST15’ after the postcode of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters, where the branch has been designed. Under the ethos of ‘keeping business local’, the nozzle is being manufactured within Staffordshire’s borders, in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
International company FireBug partnered up with the Service in 2013 to develop and produce the nozzle, which encapsulates science to use minimum water to achieve maximum results. It is the most water efficient nozzle on the world market today and is approximately 6 per cent more efficient than other comparative nozzles.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service will receive a cut of each unit sold, the profits of which will be re-invested into local community fire safety.
Fire and rescue services from across the country are set to attend the launch event, which will include practical demonstrations and the opportunity for officers to test the new nozzle.
Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said:
“We are leading the way of the UK fire and rescue service with the ST15 nozzle which has been trialled, tested and developed here in Staffordshire. We are particularly pleased to be supporting the local economy by arranging for the product to be manufactured locally.
“There is a lot of excitement about the ST15 nozzle, as we are confident that it will revolutionise how we tackle fires in the future. The product will also give unrivalled levels of firefighter safety which is one of our main priorities in Staffordshire.
The feedback we are getting from our crews is very positive and we look forward to showcasing the product to our colleagues at the launch event. We have struck up a fantastic working relationship with FireBug, our collaboration is a great example of how a public-private partnership can successfully work.”
CEO of FireBug Company Ltd Nick Link added:
“The creation, design and development of the ST15 has been one of the most rewarding projects we have worked on and the results are spectacular. We are extremely proud to have the ST15 within our product portfolio.”
