Today saw the eleventh staging of the Stone Master Marathoner’s Flying Fox 10 Mile Road Race. 212 runners took to the lanes around Standon and Maer to test themselves on the scenic but hilly rural course. The race was also the last in the 20-race North Staffs Road Runner’s Association calendar and is always keenly contested by runners eager to get some vital final points.
First Class running conditions produced some excellent times, despite the steep climbs, with Stafford Harriers’ Matthew Woodman leading the race home in a useful time of 58:09. First lady was Newcastle (Staffs) AC’s Michelle Buckle in 68:20. Michelle and Matthew also took gold in the Staffordshire 10 Mile County Championships.
Race Director Chris Barlow said “it’s great to see that local races continue to attract a keen following and that road racing is alive and well in the Staffordshire area.”
