Most residents of Stone are aware that Stone Lions Club operates a Mobility Scheme which is helping to make it a little easier for a number of local people with various disabilities to retain their independence.
The Lions now need your help! Vice President Lion Ralph Smith explains.
“Stone Lions mobility scheme has been in existence for 26 years and we now have almost 200 items of equipment available for long or short term loan, with more items being donated to us on a regular basis. The scheme is run on a ‘not for profit’ basis, although some of our customers do make donations which help to pay for the maintenance of equipment, and is operated on a voluntary basis by a dedicated team of Lions.”
“However, over the last few years our volume of stock has increased significantly and we now find ourselves victims of our own success! We desperately need to source a suitable facility to store our equipment between customers.”
“The Lions ‘wish list’ is quite simple; we are looking for a secure unit which is accessible between 9.00am – 5.00pm on weekdays. The unit needs to have a power supply so that we can charge scooters and be at ground floor level, ideally within a short distance of Stone town centre. It also needs to be at a very low rent or preferably free of charge!”
“If you know of anything suitable we would be very pleased to hear from you. We would even consider providing our own shed if anyone could offer us a suitable area on which to site it.”
There is no doubt that the Lion’s Mobility Scheme offers a tremendous service and is a great asset to Stone and the local area and many of our elderly and disabled residents would be housebound without it. Please contact Ralph Smith on 01785 288942 if you are able to help.
