The family of a disabled girl from Newcastle will jingle all the way around the Trentham Estate as part of a festive family fun run, raising money for disabled children in December.

Gabrielle Shann, 15, was born with Down’s syndrome and Congenital Talipes, greatly affecting her development and movement.

National children’s charity, Caudwell Children, provided Gabrielle with a therapy tricycle when she was 10 years old which has vastly improved her coordination and enabled her to play safely with friends whilst getting the exercise she needs.

Now her family have set their sights on fundraising for Caudwell Children by taking part in the charity’s first ever Elf Run on December 14th.

John Shann, Gabrielle’s father, said: “Caudwell Children have been a huge help to our family over the years and we wanted to fundraise to give something back to them.

“Through the charity, Gabrielle has received this life changing trike and had the chance to run out on the pitch at Stoke City, which was an incredible experience for our little girl.”

The Elf Run, taking place at the Trentham Estate, is a festive themed family event. Entrants will run, skip, walk and jingle all the way around the scenic 5km lakeside route dressed in Elf costumes and other Christmas outfits.

The fully inclusive event will then be followed by a festive themed treasure hunt for families to take part in as well as a number of Christmas stalls selling gifts and cakes. Entrants will also have access to the iconic Italian Gardens at the Trentham Estate.

Mr Shann continued: “When we saw the Elf Run we knew it was something we wanted to do as a family. It’s a family friendly Christmas day out for a great cause. The route is fully accessible for buggies and wheelchairs so it’s something everyone can take part in and enjoy.

“As a family we always strive to include Gabrielle in everything that we do, it can be hard to find inclusive activities like this so we’re very excited to be taking part in the elf run and raising money for Caudwell Children.”

Kirsten Greves, Challenge Coordinator for Caudwell Children, said: “The Elf Run is a brand new inclusive event for families to take part in. We’re calling on families from across Staffordshire to join the Shann’s and take part in our Elf Run.

“With prizes for the best Festive dress, mince pies and lots of seasonal fun on offer, the Elf Run is a great day out for all the family. So come along and help raise money for disabled children in your community.”

The Caudwell Children Elf Run is being held at the Trentham Estate, Stone Road, Trentham, Staffordshire on December 14th starting at 11:00am.

Entrance to the event costs £12 per adult with a free child’s place and entry into the treasure hunt. Tickets for families only wishing to enter the treasure hunt cost £20 for two adults and two children.
