Silver for St. Dominics at Stafford & District Senior Cross Country Championships

e01bcd89-c34b-4ad9-ac95-48b7471cc342St. Dominics girls Isabel Harper and Hollie Stow both took superb silver medal podium finishes at the Stafford & District Cross Country Championships held in Stafford in October.

With strong well-paced running Isabel as race runner-up was the lead finisher in the Year 7 team of runners, brilliantly supported by Megan Battison 5th, Keira Garrod 7th, Lucy Murphy 12th and Zoe Mukwena 39th. A wonderful team performance especially by some of our younger team members from Primary 6. Hollie Stow, also running a strong race, was narrowly pipped into 2nd place in the Senior girls race whilst Gabby Trotman just missed out on a medal in finishing 4th in the Year 10/11 race. Our Primary 6 boys, Callum Hawkins 29th, Henry Cox 38th and Tapiwa Mutezo 42nd, all performed well beating many older boys in the Year 7 age group. Georgia Murphy 9th and Molly Barton 19th also ran well as Year 8s in the Year 8/9 double age group. Maria Esparza, our international student from Mexico, demonstrated character and determination in her first UK cross country event in the Senior girls competition.

Six girls – Hollie, Gabby, Georgia, Isabel, Megan and Keira in finishing in the top ten now qualify for the Stafford District Team competing at the County Schools Championships at Staffordshire University in the New Year. Considering a number of our other runners were soaking up the Spanish culture on the Barcelona trip this still proved to be a very successful District Championships!
