Stone HGV driver – is Britain’s best and that’s official

Matt-LewisA lorry driver from Stone has won a national title beating over 1,000 of Wincanton’s best LGV and fork lift truck (FLT) drivers from  across the UK to become “Driver of the Year”.

Matt Lewis (41) entered the competition, now in its 10th year,  run by his employer Wincanton who are a supply chain solutions provider. The competition included a series of tests of his driving skills including spatial awareness and manoeuvrability. Matt told the Gazette,

“Driving large goods vehicles requires a great deal of skill and I am proud to be able to put the Wincanton LGV Driver of the Year 2014 title on my CV”

Mark Ford, head of operational training at Wincanton, said:

“The Driver of the Year competition serves as a great demonstration of the skills and professionalism of our drivers. They are the backbone of our business and the ambassadors for our brand on the road. Their high standards of performance and safety are vital to our success.”
