The Christmas party took place at Walton Village Hall on Sunday 30th November.
Community groups in Colwich joined forces to give a group of local elderly residents a Christmas day out to remember. Staffordshire based support in the home company ‘Help at Hand Home Support Services’ provide help to people of all ages, including the elderly, many of whom are alone or find it difficult to get out and about. Partners Tracy Amos and Jackie Falconer decided to organise a special Christmas lunch and entertainment with a little help from their friends. In her spare time, Tracy is also Secretary for the Colwich Community Hall Association and when the group heard about the plans, the troops were rallied to assist!
The committee and helpers agreed to fund the meal, provide transport, volunteer for the day, as well as organising bingo as part of the general entertainment. Tracy and Jackie also received many offers of help from family and local businesses including Foregate Motor Services and Haywood Village Supplies.
Alison Flower, group leader for 1st Colwich Guides, also based at the community hall, assembled a group of young helpers to decorate and dress the tables, serve the meal and help look after the guests throughout the day. During group sessions, the young guides had also helped to make table decorations and party favours containing small gifts which were distributed on the day. After the three course festive meal cooked by Tracy, Jackie and their team of willing helpers, the guests enjoyed a game of bingo followed by carols and songs provided by Second Time Around, Age UK choir. Tracy said
“This has been a wonderful day. It was great to see so many people joining forces to make it a special time for those who don’t have so much help or support close to home. Both adults and young people alike have given a lot of their time, and those we are providing it for have had a brilliant day out.”
“We’d like to extend our thanks to all those who helped in so many ways to make this event such a success.”
