In 2014, British Dressage (BD) launched a new competition for riders of all ages and abilities called ‘Team Quest’ and a group of equestrian friends from Eccleshall, all decided to put a team together “for a bit of fun” to take part in British Dressage’s Team Quest Competition – a national competition with over 400 teams competing throughout the year with the top 20 teams in the open section going forward to the National Finals.
To their utter delight, The Eccleshall Allsorts (as they became known) were in that number! And they turned up, fetlocks crossed, on November 1st to the finals which were held at the magnificent Bury Farm Equestrian competition Centre , Milton Keynes.
Over the weekends, despite stiff competition ,and major attacks of the nerves, The Eccleshall Allsorts kept their cool and finished by winning SILVER!
The team is a varied bunch hence the name” Allsorts” , ranging in age from 14 to 70, Again, their rides are a motley crew – a mixed bag of hairies, coloured’s, jumping ponies and eventers- none of which could be seen as your typical dressage horses.
The Team comprises of :- ( From left to right on the photo’s) Erika Abbotts (rides Longdon Domino), Georgia Dunford-Jones(rides Ginger), Diane Feledziak (who rides Top Hat) and Hannah Moore (who rides Tom- but due to Tom’s lameness had to also ride Longdon Domino who had never done any dressage at all before the event)
The other team members who contributed to the Allsorts getting to the result without getting in the saddle, were Alicia Feledziak, Wendy Copeland and Kirsty Jeffles.
And it’s huge congratulations from the Gazette who always likes to see the underdogs, the mavericks over achieving – especially if they are Gazette readers!
