This year’s Stafford Half Marathon has sold out in record time with the biggest ever field in the race’s recent history.
The 3,000 places have been snapped up already – with the race still more than two months away.
An extra 400 runners have been added to the 2015 event compared with last year. And a new route for the race will be announced later this month.
The ever-popular event takes place on Sunday 22 March with a start time of 10am with all runners who complete the course receiving a medal and t-shirt.
Stafford Borough Council have designed the new 13.1 mile route due to road works taking place on the regular course.
Cabinet Member for Leisure and former half marathon competitor, Councillor Mike Smith, said:
“This is a great example of just how popular this event has become. The fact that we have 400 more places than in previous years – and have sold out in record time – is testament to the quality, organisation and commitment of everyone who is a part of this race.
“And our half marathon is proving extremely popular with some very good athletes with many viewing this as the perfect warm up event for the following month’s London Marathon.”
As part of the Stafford Half Marathon event programme the mile-long ‘Fun Run’ for children and families will also take place in the town centre on the day. More details about how to enter the fun run will be made available soon.
