Well a Happy New Year to every angler out there hopefully 2015 will be a great year for all. The fishery has been really busy over the Christmas and New Year period but the fishing has been amazing. Anglers have been having some of the best sport i have seen in 6 years down at Seighford Lakes with some individual anglers landing over 25 fish and plenty of fish over that magical 10lb mark.
Floating or Slow Sinking lines have been the best methods with larger flies and lures, Best patterns have been Olive Damsels, Black/Green fritz and White/Green fritz, with smaller flies and nymphs working later on in the day. Regular angler Tony Sunderland from Stafford has been living on the fishery with 8 visits over the Festive period, Tonys worst day was 9 which is unbelievable. Tony has been fished with Olive Damsels and his favorite Green Bug 3ft under a Bung. Another regular angler who has been catching plenty was Luke Bains also from Stafford landing 28 fish on a single trip with rainbows up to 9lb 12ozs, Luke has been fishing a Snake fly on a slow sinking line to tempt the trout.
Looking ahead to this week smaller flies will be the best with the fish seeing so many lures and any warmth in the air has been producing great Buzzer hatches so don’t be scared to fish CDC’S you will catch fish on them. Both lakes will be stocked early next week to give the fishing another boost, Some more Biggies will also be going in.
If you are interested in other fishing such as Grayling, Salmon or even Night fishing for Sea Trout then check out the website www.seighfordlakes.com where fishery owner Phil Dixon offers Guided days out all over the country for anyone to learn and try other fishing. Gift vouchers can also be bought for these days and for the fishing at Seighford so for more information get in touch with Phil 01785 281967.
Many Thanks to all anglers for supporting us in 2014 and hope you carry on coming through 2015.
The Silver fishing has been great on the Horseshoe with all anglers catching plenty of fish, Best methods has been maggots, Bread and small bits of worm. Some carp have been getting caught but later on in the day when the water is at its warmest, The maze and Old Pool haven’t really been fished with the colder weather and we also recommend fishing on the Horseshoe as you will catch fish in all conditions.
A few anglers have been up fishing for pike on the lakes and catching a few as well, if this is something that interests you then please ring the lodge 01785 282967 to find out more or just pop down and give it a go. Looking ahead as soon as the weather warms up the carp and Tench will be back on the feed so any warm days make sure your out on the banks.
Again i would like to thank every angler who visited the fishery in 2014 hopefully you will have a great year and continue supporting us through 2015.
