Stone Dominoes LFC currently sitting in 2nd place in the Staffs County Women’s League were visited by 3rd placed Burton Albion Reserves.
Dominoes started poorly and soon found themselves 2-0 down after 30mins of play. A change in formation instantly changed the way Stone played giving them more structure and more of an attacking edge. Half time 2-0 to Burton.
After the break Stone Dominoes were a different team, dominating much of the play, creating chances for the strikers. After midfielder Jules Kendrick was hacked down on the edge of the box, up stepped Kerry Mccourt who floated the ball over the keepers head. From this point Stone were on top up until the final whistle, Burton began to get frustrated and kept the referee busy with numerous fouls. The referee kept his cards in his pocket even when the Burton striker lashed out as she lost the ball. Stone replied to this by showing great character, and continuing their football game, passing the ball around and making Burton work. Mollie Prime was inches away from getting the equaliser but the shot was just wide. Dominoes looked dangerous in the air from corners and Hayley Mason hit the bar with a thundering header.
Substitutes Hannah Waffle and Laura Barker made a great impact on the game, both getting shots on target however the Burton keeper was always in the right place to save. With all the possession and chances, luck wasn’t on Dominoes side and the final score ended 2-1 to Burton. Both teams stay in the same position in the league. Player of the match was centre half Becky Arnold for another quality game.
The Dominoes ladies are again at home next Sunday 2pm against Lichfield City.
