Race Report Brooks Alsager 5, 1 Feb 2015
Bright sunshine greeted the 900 runners starting this Sunday’s Brooks Alsager 5 Mile Road Race. Strong headwinds and near-freezing temperatures prevented any records this year, but as usual, a quality field of runners from all over the Country set off from the Alsager Leisure Centre on the fast, flat urban course, with the first eight finishers clocking sub 5-minute miling.
In addition to being one of the fastest 5-mile races in the Country, the Alsager 5 is also the first race in the North Staffs Road Runners race season. Members of the Association are always keen to kick off the annual 20-race programme in good form and so the race is always hotly contested.
First home in an impressive time of 24:03 was Cardiff AC’s Ieuan Thomas, with first lady Helen Clitheroe of Preston Harriers finishing in 27:14.
First Stone Master Marathoner home in a time of 32:39 was Mick Downes and first Master Marathoner Lady was Anne-Marie Mountford in 40:26. Other finishers were Paul Phillips 35:27, Richard Shaw 39:32, Gail Evans 40:59, Pam Davies 42:54, Mac McCoig 45:55 and Joyce Edwards 46:48.
