The District Governor of Rotary District 1210, Lynne Marshall, has presented David Maidment, the founder of International Children’s Charity Railway Children, with a cheque for £606.

The donation was raised from a Gift Aid collection at the recent Rotary District Conference at which David spoke.

The district covers Staffordshire, Shropshire and parts of the West Midlands.

Railway Children said they were ‘delighted’ with the donation which will transform the lives of vulnerable children living alone on the streets in India, East Africa as well as in the UK.

The charity say this support could help fund rescue workers who search the streets and railway platforms for children most at risk and in need of help.

It could provide 40 families in East Africa with a kit and the relevant support to create a portable garden in which families can grow small amounts of crops to feed their children.

This will make them self sufficient and in turn help prevent the children running to the streets.
