Stone Lions Club celebrated their 36th Charter anniversary dinner at the Yarnfield Park conference centre on Saturday 28th February 2015.
The evening was attended by Lions from far and near and guests from other organisations.
Stone Town Mayor Councillor Cathy Collier responded to the toast to “Partners and Guests” with a speech thanking the Stone Lions for all the work done in the town, with a big mention of the Mobility scheme that helps so many residents to regain not only their mobility but also their confidence.
Lion President Rod Niven had the enjoyable task of presenting the Melvin Jones Fellowship to Past District Governor Dave Handley and Lion John Watt
The MJF is an honour and is presented to Lions who have dedicated their time to the benefit of others, John a long serving Lion and one of the original charter members with 38 years dedicated service both to the club and to the local community.
He has served as Lion President for 4 and a half terms, also he has been responsible for many fund raising events, organising the street collection and Christmas Parcels not forgetting his role with the litter picking roster!
Dave has been a Lion for a relatively short period of time but has crammed a lot into this, he has been the first District Governor that the club has had and served as Lion President on two occasions also being an active District Officer serving on a number of committees dedicating many hours to the benefit of others.
