Almost 250 school children from Christchurch Academy and Walton Priory Middle School took part in a series of scientific and engineering workshops at Bibby Scientific Ltd in Stone last month, as part of British Science Week.
Bibby invited the 12-13 year olds to take part in five hands-on workshops that were designed to teach the children about basic lab techniques as well as inspire them with the latest cutting-edge scientific applications. The workshops included learning how and why to measure temperatures, pH values and light absorption, and discovering application areas including food and DNA testing.
The visitors were also provided with guided tours of Bibby’s factory, giving them real insight into how a busy UK manufacturing business operates.
The company also recently hosted a Year 5 pupil from Walton Priory Middle School, who undertook her Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) school science project at the company to learn more about temperature and thermal sensors.
