The St. Dominic’s Priory School U11 Girls Cross Country team produced an impressive final race performance to take third place and the bronze medals in the Stafford & District League series.
The Prep School runners from Primary 3, 4, 5 & 6 ran at four places: Shugborough, Birches Valley, Stone Common Plot and Nine Gate on Cannock Chase. The standard of the competition was high and each race was keenly contested with 16 schools participating and approximately 100 runners in each race.
Going into the final race at Nine Gate the team were 28 points adrift of the bronze medal position having had an under strength team competing in race 3 due to illness.
The girls rose to the challenge magnificently in the final race with many of the team producing their highest placed finishes. Special mention must go to Lucy Murphy (Year 6) who improved her best position by sixteen places to take 25th place.
Congratulations to Sophie Hughes, Mary Ellis, Lucy Murphy, Keira Garrod, Poppy Lankenau, Megan Upright and Olivia Bennett.
St. Dominic’s pupils also attended the Dagfa School Cross Country Invitational Race which was held in the beautiful grounds of Wollaton Park Hall and Gardens in Nottingham.
Sophie Hughes ran a superb race from start to finish to take the individual gold in the Year 6 race. Team support from Mary Ellis, Lucy Murphy and Keira Garrod ensured the team took second place overall.
Isabel Harper and Megan Battison finished first and second in the Year 7 race. Georgia Murphy stormed to the Year 8 gold, whilst Siena Elsby-Smith and Ella Hughes gained the silver and bronze medals in the Year 9 race.
